Norfolk Academy hosted their 13th Annual DA Taylor MS Basketball Challenge this past week, and our 6th-8th grade boys' basketball team had the opportunity to participate in this preseason event.

"D.A. was an honor student, a National Merit Semifinalist, and a three-sport athlete at Norfolk Academy. More important, he was a positive influence in the lives of all with whom he associated. In February 1995 when D.A. was a junior, he became ill with meningococcal meningitis. After a courageous battle, D.A. lost his fight on March 20, 1995.

In 2006, his family and friends founded the D.A. Taylor Charitable Foundation to honor D.A.'s spirit and the quintessential and symbolic good that he represented. His existence touched all of us, and it is our proud obligation to prolong that spirit through his name. All proceeds will go directly to the foundation." (Source: Norfolk Academy)

Coach Jennings was impressed with the improvements the team made throughout the three games, and he was honored that the team received the 8th grade division D.A. Taylor Sportsmanship Award chosen by the coaches and officials and awarded to the team exhibiting the highest degree of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
