For the second year in a row, Mrs. Weissinger's personal finance students participated in the Budget Challenge sponsored by H&R Block. During the ten week simulation, students managed a real-world budget online, competing against approximately 900 other classes nationwide to determine who displayed the most savvy finance skills. Two of Mrs. Weissinger's classes finished within the top twenty, with her 7th bell class finishing within the top ten! GCA was awarded a $2,500 grant as acknowledgement of the top ten class finish, which was the only grant awarded in the state of Virginia!
Additionally, recent Class of 2016 graduate Tyler Puckett, who has attended GCA since Kindergarten, finished #19 out of over 18,000 students in the competition. Tyler earned a $20,000 scholarship for his top placement and was one of only two students in Virginia to receive this award!
Congratulations to Mrs. Weissinger, Tyler Puckett, and our Collegiate Academy Economics and Personal Finance students!
Congratulations to Coach Dan Moore, Assistant Coaches Kelly Gregory and Sommer DiFulgo, and our amazing Softball team on their 8th consecutive state championship! Our Gators defeated St. Margaret's School of Tappahannock in the VISAA Division II state title game, wrapping up their 26-2 overall season record with a 7-3 victory. This is the 11th overall state championship title for our softball team.
Congratulations also to Coach Gary Lavelle, Assistant Coaches Andrew Riddick and Patrick Nichols, and our Gator Baseball team on bringing home their state title this weekend! This marks our Varsity Baseball team's 23rd consecutive win and 13th state championship. Pressure was on as it was the final game under the head leadership of Coach Lavelle, who is retiring as head coach this year.
Congratulations to both teams! We are proud of you!
