Congratulations to the Greenbrier Christian Academy class of 2016! GCA’s 33rd graduation commencement ceremony was held Saturday, June 4, as fifty-one graduates received their diplomas. Dr. White welcomed family and friends before praising God for allowing GCA thirty-three years of partnering with parents to provide a biblically based education and preparing students to live a life of purpose according to God’s will for them. Class Valedictorian, Rebekah “Bex” Velloney, and Salutatorian, Jonée Lillard, addressed their fellow graduates with two exceptional speeches and several awards were given to members of this outstanding class, including three special presentations:
Garrett Jones was acknowledged for his appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Garrett's appointment carries full tuition, room, board, and stipend as an active duty midshipman for all four years of college. Upon graduation, Garrett will be commissioned as a Navy ensign or Marine Corp second lieutenant and will continue to serve as an officer for a minimum of five years after completion of his studies.
Andrew Douglas, who has attended GCA since Kindergarten, was awarded a $180,000 scholarship from the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, as well as a $8,500 Emerging Leader scholarship from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets.
