Walk in the wayOn June 8th, Bridge Academy Principal, Tracy Cox, spoke to rising 6th graders, families, and friends in a commissioning ceremony. Similar to the commissioning of a newly built ship, the ceremony served as a way to acknowledge students' readiness to move forward into the Collegiate Academy with a sense of purpose.

Two recent graduates from the GCA Class of 2016 spoke to students during the commissioning ceremony.  Class of 2016 Valedictorian, Rebekah Velloney, shared thoughts with the rising 6th graders on the importance of keeping God first as they begin this new phase of their academic life. “Nothing else will satisfy you. We are like fish out of water without God,” Velloney shared. Velloney went on to encourage students to always give God the glory and to be fearless in everything they do. Garrett Jones, who received a prestigious appointment to the United States Naval Academy for this fall, shared a message on the importance of trusting in Jesus, especially during transitional times when we might become fearful of the uncertainty. Mr. Jones recalled the disciples fear during the storm and encouraged the rising 6th graders to trust Jesus no matter the whirlwind of transition going on around us.

Principal Cox shared the class verse, Isaiah 30:21, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it" and reminded students that God whispers; to hear him, we need to have a close relationship with him. Principal Cox encouraged students to move confidently forward into the Collegiate Academy, growing their relationship with God, sharing with him everything from their fears or concerns to their desires for eyes to see and ears to hear.

Each student was presented with a plaque featuring original artwork created by art teacher Mrs. Leader, inspired by the class verse. The ceremony concluded with students being joined by their families for a special prayer over the class.

Congratulations to the class of 2022! We are excited to watch you continue your walk with God at GCA!
