Beginnings Academy (Preschool - Kindergarten)

Purpose Statement: The Beginnings Academy works to encourage each child's physical, mental, emotional, and social development, while planting the seeds of God's word into their hearts during this critical time in their development.

Theme Verse: "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11

Preschool students in our Beginnings Academy showered their Mothers with love during their annual Mother’s Tea!  Guests were treated to songs and gift artwork by their little ones, followed by a time of fellowship over cookies, fruit, tea, and lemonade!  Our littlest Gators have loved preparing for this special event and keeping the sweet songs a surprise for their moms!

Mrs. Cindy Jessee spoke with guests and shared wisdom she has gained through her years of being a preschool educator, mom, and now grandmother!

What a wonderful morning for our families!

Teacher Appreciation Week logoThank you to all of the students, families, and volunteers who showered our faculty and staff with love during Teacher Appreciation Week 2017!

On Monday, our teachers and staff arrived to find every classroom and office door decorated with encouraging messages and displays of creativity from their students and parents! Thank you to all of the room moms and helpers who made this wonderful surprise possible. The teachers were also treated to a warm breakfast from Huddle House to start the week off.

Teachers walked into a "Snack and Supply" room on Tuesday, overflowing with classroom supplies such as dry erase markers, sharpies, stickers, and post-its, as well as yummy snacks and treats to stay fueled!  Teachers were invited to come in throughout the day and take whatever they wanted for their classrooms. There was so much to choose from, nobody left empty-handed!

Wednesday started off with a surprise "Appreciation Station." Teachers were given a golden ticket where they chose, in order of preference, up to 118 gifts!  The gifts would be raffled off to the teachers on Friday as a final Thank You for all they do.  For lunch, teachers were treated to boxed lunches from the Hilltop Chick-Fil-A, complete with thank you notes to bless and encourage them.

Thursday was a sweet day!  GCA parents baked dozens upon dozens of cookies in all flavors, shapes, and sizes for a cookie and coffee bar!  The mid-day pick-me-up was very special, as everything was hand-crafted by our amazing families to bless our GCA faculty and staff!  …and as a special treat, Mrs. White made her famous and highly sought-after Coffee Punch!

Teacher Appreciation Week concluded on Friday with a fantastic grand finale which included a beautiful luncheon and the golden ticket raffle.  Each of our faculty and staff members walked away with an item from the Appreciation Station and as an added bonus, there was so much extra food from the delicious luncheon, we were able to provide the Union Mission with food to feed the homeless that evening!

Thank you to the many parents and families who participated in blessing our faculty and staff!  Through the giving of your time, resources, creativity, and prayers, the entire GCA team has been encouraged and blessed by the tremendous outpouring!  Thank you!

...And a very special thank you to our own Mrs. Marne Buchanan, who organized the week’s events and worked tirelessly to make each day extraordinary for her GCA team-mates!  Marne, you are amazing!

Daddy Kite Day 1Our Beginnings Academy celebrated Dads with our annual Daddy Kite Day!  Dads enjoyed a time of fellowship with each other and heard from Mr. Gary Wilson, one of our Collegiate Academy Administrators, who shared his wisdom as a father of two grown children.  Mr. Wilson encouraged Dads to model by example, always remembering their children are learning how to act by watching and imitating the person they want to be most like; their Dads.  Using an umbrella as an analogy, Mr. Wilson made the comparison that much like an umbrella shields us from rain and bad weather, parents, and Dads especially, shield children from harm.  Mr. Wilson closed with sharing lyrics to the song “Watching You” by Rodney Atkins and encouraged Dads to enjoy the parenthood adventure they have set out on!

After a time of fellowship and words of wisdom, Dads were joined by their little Gators for some fun!  With rainy weather preventing kite flying, Beginnings Academy Director, Mrs. Dykes, announced the “Dr. Seuss Game” would serve as a back-up!  Daddies and children made their way to the field house where they formed a large circle and were each assigned a Dr. Seuss character.  As Director Dykes read aloud The Cat In the Hat, each Daddy-child pair had to run across the circle and quickly find an open spot whenever they heard their character named.  Lots of laughter, smiles, and excited cheering ensued as our preschoolers ran back and forth with their Dads, many of whom ended up football carrying their little ones across the circle to the delight of everyone!

What a special day to celebrate the blessing of a Daddy in the life of a child!

Our Gators have been showing their school spirit as we look toward our Homecoming weekend with a week’s worth of fun themed days! Our Homecoming week theme this year took on a Disney flair, with days matching up to favorite Disney movies.

The week kicked off with “Monster’s University” Monday, with our GCA Gators wearing their favorite college gear. We saw friends, teachers, and even whole classes twinning it on Twin Tuesday (inspired by The Parent Trap) and Wednesday may have gone down as the most comfortable day at school ever as students finally got a pajama themed “Sleeping Beauty” day! The halls filled with Hawaiian shirts and flower leis for “Lilo and Stich” Hawaiian day and the week wrapped up with “Tick Tock Croc” Friday as we represent our Gator pride in Orange and Blue Gator wear!

After an exciting week, we hope to see you at our annual Homecoming Game Saturday, February 4th. Below is the schedule for the night’s activities. Go Gators!

Food DriveThank you to all who donated food for our annual Hope for the Holidays Union Mission food drive. We were able to bless the Union Mission with a truckload of food to help feed the homeless in our area.  Our Collegiate Beta Club students helped sort and pack over thirty boxes of food and goods donated toward the drive by our GCA students and families.

Thank you, Gators!
